A Quick Turkey Run report

So I ran a turkey trot race this past Saturday, I didn't bring home a turkey but it felt good to finally be able to sign up for a race again.. I find myself trying to put together next year's race schedule. Do you have your first half of the year's race schedule already put together??

I didn't take a pic of breakfast but it was the usual suspects a chocolate chip peanut odwalla bar, banana and some water to wash it down.

A wise person once said "If it's not Baroque, don't fix it!" okay so it was Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast but it still applies.

This is what the ride up looked like about an hour drive which is a normal race day drive for me

not much to look at but sunrises never fail to impress me.
My standard pre-race pic of myself don't let the sun and clear skies fool you it was cold and a little breezy out so my running sleeves came in handy.

The race was a flat run through a neighborhood near the recreation center that was holding the event. I was really hoping to run a race in under 30 mins. before the end of the year and I am still undecided if I should give it one more shot on Dec. 5 and do a local run which I think is very appropriately named the Freeze & Wheeze. Anywho back to my point i did not meet my goal I did get a new PR though I came in at 30.50 which is 2 minutes and 5 seconds faster than my previous time so hooray for small victories.

I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving and Congratulations to all those brave souls how decided to get out and run on Thanksgiving Day!!!

There is still time to stop by and enter my Yankz SureLace System Giveaway ends tonight and 11:59 (PST)

Squash

Women's Health magazine December issue had an article on squash for people like me with no idea what to do with it.

Here are some of the ideas I liked the most
Acorn Squash: " Enjoy it lightly coat with squash surface with butter, sugar, sea salt, and pure maple syrup, then bake

Buttercup Squash: "Enjoy it in a blender, mix chunks of baked buttercup along with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, cumin, cayenne, salt and pepper for a riff on traditional hummus."

Spaghetti Squash: "Scrape out the cooked strands with a fork, and coats the "noodles" with pesto

Speaking of pesto there was even a pesto recipe in the magazine that used the squash seeds wanna hear it here it go:

Winter Pesto:
2 c. fresh basil
3 cloves garlic
1/4 c. roasted squash seeds
1/2 c extra virgin olive oil
1/3c. parmesan cheese, grated

~Put basil, garlic and seed in a food processor and pulse several times.
~While the motor is running, add olive oil, cheese and salt to taste.
~Process until just smooth and combined.

Feature Friday Yankz Review and GiveAway!!!

I know it is Saturday but I had every intention of getting this post up yesterday I was having a little trouble with my internet but everything is back up and running so without further ado..

I had the wonderful opportunity to try out some Yankz! Sure Lace System. How can you not like a product that tells you you no longer have to tie your shoes (maybe it's just me hey I have 4 kids I am getting a little older and one less tedious task is okay with me. )

Here is my shoe sporting the Yankz white reflective laces
I received a pair of the white reflective laces to try out and review, and so here are my one word thoughts; clever, comfortable, simple, quick and easy.
The extend version I would give this product two thumbs up. I had my Yankz on today for my comeback 5k and they were really comfortable I didn't even notice them (this could have been due to the fact that my hands were freezing and my legs throbbing it was so cold) but whatever the case I like being able to just slip on my shoes and I didn't have to worry about stopping mid run and having to retie my shoe. Putting the laces in was super simple and quick, it took less than 5 minutes. All in all from my usage so far I think that Yankz are a great product and hope to get some colored ones to go with my next pair of running shoes.

My only suggestion to anyone who buys a pair of Yankz would be to walk or run around in your shoes a little bit before cutting the laces to make sure they are lose/tight enough ( I had to adjust the laces a few times before they were just right.)

You can purchase Yanks! Sure Lace System (for $7.50 - $8.00) online at Yankz.com

Win It!!!
Thanks to the wonderful people over at Yankz I have a pair of white reflective laces to giveaway to one lucky reader.

Yesterday's Eats and a GiveAway!!!

So I was trying to get this post up last night around 9pm but I was interrupted by 2 very good looking guys and after they left I just decided to go to bed.

Say hello to my Criminal Minds cuties...

So to make up for my lack of concentration I have a giveaway!!! so make sure you don't leave before entering.

Okay so yesterday for food I decided to drink breakfast so I have some mixed frozen fruit (I love me some costco) TJ's Greek style yogurt, 1 banana and a little o.j.

blended it all up...
and had this delightful smoothie.
Lunch was a nice sandwich and chip combo: Turkey bacon, spinach, tomato and I will admit that I went a little wild and used some Havarti cheese 110 calories a slice (why does bad have to taste so darn good) and a some Stacy's garlic and herb chips (another costco find)
I had some chocolate milk with it (yes, I originally purchased these for my kids but don't judge me the stomach wants what the stomach wants)

Dinner was a pretty simple cod recipe: I took some cod, bell pepper, onion, garlic, stewed tomatoes, lemon juice, and creole seasoning

put it all together in a pan came out smelling and tasting so good, really it was I thoroughly impressed myself
served it over some brown rice (it might not look that amazing but don't judge a book by it's cover)
after wards I had some more Greek style yogurt with some mandarin oranges.

So now on to what you really stuck around for the wonderful folks at Brown Cow contacted me this week to try out their All Natural Greek Yogurt and so of course I said yes, please. As soon as I get a chance to locate some I will be doing a full review but for today I bring to you your opportunity to try some Brown Cow Greek Yogurt for yourself.

FF- Let's Talk Jogging Strollers

So lately I have been on a mission to acquire a jogging stroller and finally I have gotten my husband to buy into the fact that this wonderful piece of equipment is a need not just a want.

And as much as I would love to buy one of these babies (BOB Ironman jogging stroller $349.99)

Instead I am going to have to go with something more like this (InSTEP Run Around LTD 129.99) more in my price range and from what I have found has pretty good reviews. I like to think of it as a sort of "starter" jogging stroller.

So now a few questions Do you own a jogging stroller? What Kind? What kind of review would you give it? How much do you use it? Would you consider it a vital piece of running gear?

How about some Soup???

Since today was a holiday I got a late start so I decided on an early lunch at about 10:30

white bean soup, grilled tomato onion and mozzarella cheese sandwich. I also have a few dark chocolate espresso beans and chai black tea.
around 2:30 I had TJs greek style yogurt, banana, almonds and Kashi H2H
Right before step class I ate half of this odwalla bar
A couple days ago I threw together this stuff and made some chicken and udon noodle soup
so I decided to have some of it for dinner, it was really good I ended up sharing a good portion with my kids (I should have waited til they were sleep)
and while I watched the Road Rules/Real World Challenge I had some No Pudge Brownie.
so that's all folks I am off to bed...
